Admission Requirements to Study in German Universities

  • Step 1: Research Programmes and Universities

    Explore universities and programmes that align with your academic interests and career goals. Use official university websites, DAAD database, or verified education portals for accurate information.

  • Step 2: Check Eligibility and Entry Requirements

    Review programme-specific academic qualifications and whether your school-leaving certificate is equivalent to the German Abitur. Use the Anabin database or DAAD admission database to verify your qualifications.

  • Step 3: Prepare Required Documents

    Gather essential documents such as academic transcripts, certificates, proof of language proficiency (German or English), passport, motivation letter, CV, and letters of recommendation if required.

  • Step 4: Meet Language Requirements

    For German-taught programmes: Submit TestDaF, DSH, telc Deutsch, or Goethe-Zertifikat (minimum B2 level typically required).

    For English-taught programmes: Submit IELTS (minimum 6.0-6.5), TOEFL iBT (80-100 points), or C1 Advanced scores.

  • Step 5: Apply Through Appropriate Channel

    Apply directly through the university's portal or through uni-assist (a central application service for international students). Some programmes may require additional entrance exams or TestAS.

  • Step 6: Wait for the Offer Letter

    If your application is successful, you will receive an admission letter (Zulassungsbescheid) or conditional offer from the university.

  • Step 7: Apply for a Student Visa

    Book an appointment at the German embassy or consulate as early as possible and submit your student visa application with all required documents.
